Daley Thompson CBE won decathlon gold twice. Only one other athlete has claimed the illustrious gold twice. Thompson was also the first ever athlete to hold World, Olympic, Commonwealth and European titles, all at the same time. He also held the world record at that time. Thompson was unbeaten for nine years during his illustrious career as an athlete.

Daley, who was born and raised in London, started competing at decathlon when he was 18. Although he finished 18th, most critics knew at that time that Daley has something amazing about himself. Daley lived up to expectations as his hard work and overall brilliance earned him gold in Moscow, only four years after his first attempt. His victory in Moscow was historic – Daley had a massive lead of 150 points over the nearest rival.

Daley Thompson faced a career-ending injury in 1992, which eventually forced him to retire. Surprisingly, it wasn’t the end of his ambitions as he went to play football for Mansfield Town FC. He also played a season for Wimbledon FC.
